-
- (1) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
- ------------------------
- MSCODE.exe is a complete menu driven "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" learning tool
- that allows the user to set the pace. The 3 major modes are LESSONS,
- PRACTICE and WORD LIST. The user can change the tone, number of words per
- minute, how many characters are sent at a time and weather or not the
- characters are displayed as they are sent. The program tracks the user's
- progress and displays a score based on level of difficulty at the end of
- each lesson.
- For a more complete program description see (13) PROGRAM MENU OPTIONS.
-
- (2) DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE:
-
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
- buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
- are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
- some request registration while others require it, some specify a
- maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
- simple right to continue using the software to an updated program
- with printed manual.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
- and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
- of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
- and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution.
- The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
- the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group.
- For example, some authors require written permission before a
- commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it.
-
- (3) DISCLAIMER:
- D I S C L A I M E R - A G R E E M E N T
-
- Users of MsCode must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
- "MsCode is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
- expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties
- of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes
- no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result
- from the use of MsCode."
-
- MsCode is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the
- user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
- please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
- essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
- users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
- incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If
- you find this program useful and find that you are using MsCode and
- continue to use MsCode after a reasonable trial period, you must make
- a registration payment of $25 plus s/h and any sales tax that may apply,
- to Brad's Software. The $25 registration fee will license one copy for
- use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software
- just like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
- number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location to
- another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one
- location while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be
- read by two different persons at the same time.
-
- Commercial users of MsCode must register and pay for their copies
- of MsCode within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.
- Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting Brad's Software.
-
- Anyone distributing MsCode for any kind of remuneration must first
- contact Brad's Software at the address below for authorization.
- This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
- recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware
- distributors, and such distributors may begin offering MsCode
- immediately (However Brad's Software must still be advised so that
- the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of
- MsCode).
-
- You are encouraged to pass a copy of MsCode along to your friends
- for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if
- they find that they can use it. All registered users will receive
- a copy of the latest version of the MsCode system.
-
- (4) LICENSE:
-
- MSCODE is not and has never been public domain, nor is it free ware.
- MSCODE is copyrighted by Ken Bradford and any unauthorized use
- inconsistent with the terms of this license is an infringement of
- the copyright.
-
- MSCODE may be used without registration for 30 days for evaluation.
- The use of MSCODE beyond the 30 days, requires registration.
- See (14) REGISTRATION for registering the MSCODE software.
-
- The use of unlicensed copies by any person, business, corporation,
- government agency or any other entity is strictly prohibited. After
- the 30 day evaluation period, you must either register the software
- or erase it.
-
- A single user license permits a user to use MSCODE only on a single
- computer. A purchaser of a single user license may use the program on
- different computers, but may not use the program on more than one
- computer at a time.
-
- Registration to a business name requires a SITE license.
- See MsCode.reg "ORDER FORM" for fees.
-
- No one may modify or patch the MSCODE executable files in any way,
- including but not limited to decompiling, disassembling, or otherwise
- reverse engineering the program.
-
- A limited license is granted to copy and distribute MSCODE only for
- the purpose of evaluation by others, subject to the above limitations,
- and also the following:
-
- MSCODE must be copied in unmodified form, complete with all accompanying
- files, documentation, and this license.
-
- (5) PACKING LIST:
- -----------------
-
- MSCODE.ZIP ( might also be listed as MORSCODE.ZIP ect. )
- Compressed ZIP file of the following files.
- CMDIALOG.VB_ Command dialog box control.
- COMMDLG.VB_ Common dialog box control.
- FILE_ID.DIZ Program description file.
- FILE_ID.DI_ Program description file (compressed).
- MSCODE.EX_ Main program.
- MSCODE.DOC This documentation file.
- MSCODE.DO_ This documentation file (compressed).
- MsCode.REG Order form to register MsCode.
- MsCode.RE_ Order form to register MsCode (compressed).
- MSCODE.TB_ Viewer editable MORSE CODE TABLE and information.
- MSCODE.HLP Help file (tells how to use MsCode).
- MSCODE.HL_ Help file (compressed).

- SETUP.EXE Setup program to load MsCode files into Windows.
- SETUP.LST Required by Windows to setup MsCode.

- SETUPKIT.DL_ Required by Windows to setup MsCode.
-
- Files with a underline as the last letter have been compressed by the
- Windows packaging utility and will be decompressed when you run the
- SETUP.EXE file.
-
- The reason that there are two copies of FILE_ID.DIZ and MSCODE.DOC
- (one compressed and one that is not compressed) is that some BBS's
- will not load a ZIP file if their software can't find the DIZ file.
-
- I have also discovered that most people will not load a program if
- they can't read the documentation file first.
-
- (6) DISTRIBUTION:
- -------------------
- You are welcome to give unaltered copies of MSCODE.ZIP to
- your friends or upload it to your favorite bulletin board.
-
- MSCODE may not be distributed in conjunction with any
- other product without a specific license to do so from
- Ken Bradford, with exception that Vendors may distribute
- the latest evaluation copy of MsCode.zip on CD-ROM provided
- that all files, including this documentation file are intact.
-
- No fee, charge, or other compensation may be charged except
- as listed below:
-
- A. Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
- may make MSCODE available for downloading only as long as
- the above conditions are met. Overall charges are permitted
- as long as there is no specific charge for downloading
- MSCODE. Any fee divided by the number of items downloaded
- must not exceed ten dollars.
-
- B. Vendors of user-supported or shareware may distribute
- only the most current shareware version of MSCODE without
- specific permission, subject to the above conditions. It is
- the responsibility of the vendor to obtain the most recent
- shareware version. Vendors may charge a disk duplication
- and handling fee, which may not exceed ten dollars, with
- the exception being CD-ROM's.

- tested on a 486/66 AT with 4MB RAM. @ 18 and 66MHz.
-
- (9) PROGRAM HISTORY:
- --------------------
- I am one of those people that can't remember the previous characters sent.
- Way back in October of 1984,I developed a program for my own personal use
- that ran on the TI 99/4A home computer. The program allowed me to select
- and hear the characters sent as words. It became easy to learn once I quit
- listening for individual dits and da's.
-
- In 1986 I rewrote "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" to run on a TI PC. It had a TI
- three color plain graphics board and was updated for IBM with a Hercules
- CGA card. I still hadn't added the shareware screens or published MsCode
- even then because there weren't that many TI PC's around and they were
- switching to IBM motherboards .I bought a new 486/66 IBM compatible in
- February 1993, started Brad's SoftWare and have been publishing some of
- the software that I have written over the years.
-
- Other software packages available by Brad's Software is "Texlotto", a
- complete Texas Lottery Data Analyzer, now available in both DOS and
- Windows versions.

- except that you are asked to enter a list of characters that you need
- practice on. The program randomly sounds out the dits and dahs for
- the characters in the practice list. At the end, you are given a score
- based on speed, number of characters sent at a time and the level of
- difficulty, the same way that the lessons are scored.
-
- Or you can select "PRACTICE KEY" (available only in the registered
- version), which allows you to use the Ctrl key as a telegraph key that
- not only sounds out the dits and dahs, but displays them and the

- version), which allows you to load a text file and sound out in MORSE
- CODE any part of the text file that you have hi-lighted.

- words to copy and graduate to longer harder words to copy. The user is
- then asked to type the words as the dits and dahs for the characters in
- the randomly selected words are sounded out. At the end, the user is
- given a score based on speed, number of characters sent at a time and
- the level of difficulty the same way that the lessons are scored.
